Reclaim the Game is a one of a kind programme for men aged 18-44, who want to avoid betting getting the better of them, who’d like to join a team to support them get more active and spend only what they want on betting.

The 8 week programme is being delivered by Preston North End Community and Education Trust and Accrington Stanley Community Trust coaches free of charge. Each 90 minute session is split between learning about gambling issues and training in club stadium/facilities.

Healthy Stadia

Healthy Stadia is a social enterprise founded in 2012 and owned by UK-based public health charity, Health Equalities Group (Charity number: 1110067).

Healthy Stadia works with clubs, stadium operators and governing bodies to develop sports venues as ‘health promoting settings’, using practices that support healthier matchday environments and promote healthier lifestyles amongst fans and local communities through football.

Through its work in the cross-cutting field of public health and sport, Healthy Stadia has significant experience of partnering on both UK and European funded research projects, including grants from NIHR, MRC, ESRC, EU Erasmus+ and EU Horizon 2020.

Since 2010 Healthy Stadia has partnered with UEFA’s Football and Social Responsibility department, working on UEFA’s flagship international tournaments and club competition finals.

Development team

Reclaim the Game has been developed in collaboration with the University of Glasgow, The University of Stirling, Healthy Stadia and the Beacon Counselling Trust.

Universities of Glasgow/Stirling: Led by Professor Gerda Reith, our team includes specialists in gambling research (Heather Wardle) and specialists in working with football clubs on the design and delivery of schemes like Reclaim the Game (Craig Donnachie, Chris Bunn, Cindy Gray, Kate Hunt).

Beacon Counselling Trust are the largest provider of support services for gambling harms in the North West, working with communities to provide education and information about gambling harms and how to overcome them.
